Ginataang Halo-Halo

Ginataang Halo-halo is a combination of glutinous rice balls, sweet potato, purple yam, plantain and jackfruit stewed in coconut milk and sugar along with some tapioca pearls. It is sometimes called ginataang bilo-bilo or simply ginataan, in the Philippines and various other names including bubur chacha here in Malaysia. It is very filling and comforting on those rainy days but can be served chilled too. It's been raining continuously here for the past few days and it I think it would be a perfect merienda or afternoon snack. Just make sure that if you ever attempted to make some, make a lot! 'coz it's gonna disappear in an instant! :)

Taho

Taho
Tahooooo! bellowed the taho vendor in the morning. My mornings in Zamboanga city would not be complete without some music (that my dad cranks up in the morning to fill the whole house) and some hot taho with pan de sal. Taho is a hot drink usually sold by a peddler in the morning. It is a mix of soft, silken tofu with some kind of brown sugar syrup and small tapioca pearls. it is served in a plastic cup with some straw but you could always bring your own mug and ask the taho vendor to fill your taho there instead. Sometimes the taho vendor would be nice enough to fill your huge mug with taho if he feels like it (it pays to be friendly with the taho vendors you know, haha). Now that I'm in Sabah, I'm hopelessly craving for that goodness. Maybe someday i can make myself a mug or two, and share with you the recipe, if i found one! Anyways, gotta go research, bye! :)
